Poets’ Night at The Jewish Theatre

11 October at 6.30 pm

In connection with the staged exhibition Flight and Metamorphosis. Nelly Sachs, writer Berlin/Stockholm, The Jewish Theatre is pleased to invite you to an evening devoted to the works of Nelly Sachs.

On Poets’ Night theatre director Pia Forsgren will host a talk with poets and writers Anders Olsson, Katarina Frostensson and Aris Fioretos. The conversation will focus on Nelly Sachs’ poetry, and the guests will read from their own works.

Nelly Sachs’ poetry is rhythm and pulse in a web of cosmic symbols. It exudes longing and quakes with despair at the persecution of the Jews during the Second World War. Nelly Sachs followed the condemned until their last breath in the gas chambers. Her poems are often concerned with these final fifteen minutes. But her poetry is not about death, it is about being alive. Nelly Sachs’ writing combines ancient themes with a boldly original form.
