About The Jewish Theatre
The Jewish Theatre is an experimental stage for the exploration of drama, dance, film, music and performance with a contemporary Jewish perspective. Under the leadership of manager, director and artistic director Pia Forsgren, who has a distinguished background in classical theatre, the theatre has created a unique venue in Stockholm for contemporary dramatic art.

The theatre has specialized in integrating environments with its performances, making use of live performers as well as architecture and technology. Rather than relying on a regular repertoire, The Jewish Theatre has preferred to commission or choreograph works that continually reconfigure the theatre space. Forsgren’s view of the theater has moved away from the formal conception of drama and into a series of intense multimedia performances drawing on music, sound and light as well as text.
The philosophy and aim of The Jewish Theatre are to expand contemporary issues such as democracy, integration, identity and gender, and to do this through art in the form of a dialogue; a Jewish cultural tradition based on questioning, curiosity and a desire to incorporate the new and the foreign.
The Jewish Theatre is part of the privately held Proventus group. Proventus’ considerable cultural interest and strong commitment to society building are reflected in the funding of The Jewish Theatre as well as one of the leading institutions of contemporary art in Sweden, Magasin 3 Stockholm Konsthall, and Glasshouse Forum, a research-oriented, independent arena for critical reflection on the merits and demerits of capitalism.
